Also, middle book syndrome being what it is, this did feel like we were building a lot towards something.

The mystery element of the plot was also nice, with a twist later on in the book that I didn’t expect. I’ve been waiting for the next instalment of Amari for over a year, and this was even better than I’d hoped for! Artemis Fowl meets Men in Black in this magical second book in the New York Times and Indie bestselling Supernatural Investigations trilogy—perfect for fans of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, the Percy Jackson series, and Nevermoor. I love how this book brings up issues of discrimination but describes it in a way that a younger audience can understand. Amari, a Black girl with limited means, confronts privilege and prejudice even while delving into a world of wonder, humor, and adventure, making this a sure-to-please winner. The game portion and the investigation both ended up being wrapped up (for now) really quickly, while I found the lead up to both confrontations a bit dragged out for what we got. Nearly a year after Amari proved that magicians can be good, the state experiences a momentary time freeze, leaving the Supernatural World Congress trapped in time. So, in this exciting sequel, Amari is convinced her first full summer as a Junior Agent will be no problem. Wirklich nett von den Bösewicht*Innen, dass sie immer auf die Sommerferien warten, um Unfug zu treiben.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. As an old villain comes back to haunt them, chaos ensues, resulting in Amari having to enter a terrifying competition known as the Great Game.My favorite part of the book was the final third of the book, and this is where I got hooked on the story, but I should have been hooked at the beginning.

I genuinely love this series so, so much - the plot is fantastic, the world building is perfect, and. With the help of her family, and her friends, Mafalda needs to discover the things that will be important to her when her sight has failed. I don't know that I loved this quite as much as book 1, but it's still continuing to be a great series and I look forward to seeing what Amari does next. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). Praise for AMARI AND THE NIGHT BROTHERS: "Fast-paced adventure and cutthroat pre-adolescent contempt make for a delightfully challenging journey here, particularly considering the ways that Alston frames Amari's racial and economic experiences as a Black girl as the root of her strong-willed nature and spirit of integrity. This timely, energetic, first-person narrative moves quickly with clear descriptions, a thrilling buildup, and strong messages about profiling. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned.
