This series has enemies to lovers, found family, morally grey MMC, and ‘burn the world for you’ love, among others. I’ve learned my lesson with trusting manipulative kings, so why does my chest constrict every time he’s near? In my opinion, it gives it more realistic depth and macabre charm, but I would advise it against audiences who are sensitive or impressionable to the contents in this book. Also, Raven Kennedy addresses several difficult topics in this series which are challenging to read but absolutely necessary. It's just chapter after chapter of suffering, manipulation, and garbage men human beings with too much power.

On top of that, Auren feels lonely and struggles with mental health issues from her captivity and isolation. I finished the book purely to see what people actually like about it, and ended up doubting myself and everything I acknowledged as literature so far. I rather think that their dynamic shows how subtle emotional abuse can be, how hard it is to open your eyes to an abusive and toxic relationship, and how even harder it is to try to stop this relationship. But we could’ve skipped all the rape and abuse, and just mash up the first two book into one with better results.This book details the empowerment she feels as she is finally released albeit temporarily from the gold cage. Gild is a heart-pounding fantasy romance, and this outstanding book will keep you gripped until the very last word.

I was debating over my rating for awhile but then I realized that while I was angry understatement over a lot of things that happened in here, I didn't completely hate this. The first half was not that great, but the second half of Gild was better once Auren finally got out of the castle and it was more action-packed.

I want to apologise to all the Greek Retellings I've read and the people of Greece on behalf of this book.

Overall this is one of the best series I have read so far with an interesting take on the king Midas story. Personally, I don't have people that enjoy reading as much as I do around me irl so to be able to hype and talk and be excited about a book together is just a pure bliss for me.You can both hate them and care for them at times, it shows me how human, interesting and well-crafted they are. After living amongst the terrifying army of Fourth Kingdom, I find myself, once again, in strange lands and a kingdom surrounded by liars. She does a splendid job in introducing a cast of very interesting characters whether their actions are questionable or not. The complex protagonist, Auren and I can't wait to see her grow more into herself and her ribbons thingy.

I don't want to say too much more, but let's just leave it as sometimes help comes from the unlikeliest of places, and also if you like Rhysand from ACOTAR but thought to yourself, "You know what would be even hotter?

Anyway, throw in some random pirate, drop in a long thought dead Fae race, elude to the fact that she is something that its clear she is already by this point and youve got yourself a train wreck of a book that i literally rolled my eyes at at every swipe of the kindle page. i finished this book like a week ago and genuinely don't remember enough about it to review it so i must have started skim reading at the 75% mark.
